The future of Novilar!
Mobile was never so beautiful!
The future of Novilar!Mobile was never so beautiful!
Hello fellow Novilarians (or Novians, or Novilians…?), today marks a large announcement, both for Novilar as it is today, and the Novilar of tomorrow.
One thing that this game is not, is being truly mobile friendly. A lot of our player base surprisingly use mobile devices., and this game should feel good on mobile devices.
That said, Novilar is going to be through a phase of becoming a mobile-first game. *This means it will be readily available on mobile app stores, playable by a larger audience then ever before!* It will always be available on a desktop computer via a web browser, that will not change.
To accomplish this, the game will be simplifying some mechanics, cleaning up others, and generally adjusting to what it means to be played on a mobile device.
Some game mechanics will change, instead of actively exploring as the only option as it is today, you can choose to send a pet out to explore passively for you. Your pet is slower then you are, and the rewards less, but it allows you feel like you are doing something. This passive pet exploration is designed for players who feel like they cannot actively play, but still want to feel like they are achieving and participating.
You will see this type of play also in crafting, which will see an overhaul. For instance, now food is mainly crafted (cooked, or crafted), instead of being purchased, with food becoming ever more important with the passive gameplay which will drain your pets hunger bars aggressively.
We will see a change in how pets are managed, with each player having a team of 5 active pets, and the rest are send to your Menagerie, where they will be fed and kept healthy, but cannot participate in activities.
These are three features that are listed, with more to come. As the team focuses on this, and prepares to preview these regularly here and on our Discord, we want your input! Expect regular news updates as we progress through this amazingly exciting journey.

wait will we still have the option of buying food from the shop or will we have to craft all food?

Some basic food options will be available, but demand will be high, and they won't be terribly effective, crafting it will be the better choice overall.

This is exciting. Most other sims mobile layouts are.. lacking to say at least. Which is crazy seeing that mobile traffic is rising

I'm super excited to hear about this! Your recent Facebook post actually dragged me back here with the hope of a new mobile layout. Mobile is just *so* much more convenient and transportable! :D
My main concern is that the pet-sim functions will be dialled down, I guess, but who knows how it'll go.

@PepperMint(#1911) In what ways would you worry about pet-sim functions becoming limited?

i don't really like the change in the food. i'd rather the ease of buying food. i have a hard time gathering quest items as is let alone having to gather stuff to cook food to keep your pet from dieing. unless you make something like a mini game that will give the ingredients easily. unless you make it to where the pets only need the food to explore, something so crucial should be kept easy to obtain. i could understand doing something like that for extras like wearables and skins but not with food or purity potions those items should be easier to get and make the game fun and accessible for everyone. on more higher level purity potions that are rare should be harder than common, you know so you work your way up for potions and food that do more at once but always have low level items available easily for all even amateurs like me. The 5 pet team sounds great tho and letting your pet explore without you sounds great tho.
