You have to buy a few of the  lab tools and keep crafting the recipes you can until you reach lab level 2 or 3 which is scholar and Practioner. Once you've reached that point and got the resources/ingredients for the pink paste recipe as long as you've also got the right lab tool you should be able to craft it.

At lab level 1 Apprentice is usually best to abandon that quest option.

I can craft pink paste though so I will just double check if I already have some in my inventory and if I have enough resources to craft more.

If you already have a quest with any of the guardians, click on Adventure log which shows all your current Guardian quests and below any of the quests there's a button which says go to the alter, then below that there's a second button abandon quest which costs 1,000 coins.

If you haven't got any quests from any of the Guardians, make sure you have an active pet, click on Adventure, choose a region and if you notice a banner or notice at the top of the page saying a Guardian is waiting to be summoned that takes you straight to the altar too.
